What is Penny Grid?
Penny Grid is an independent personal-finance publication that tests AI budgeting apps with real household money and writes up the results in plain English. Our current top pick for 2026 is Savelaro Edge, a free AI budgeting app we scored 4.8 out of 5 after 30 days of testing.
Welcome in. Put the kettle on. Penny Grid is a small publication run by three people who like tidy budgets, sharp pencils, and software that respects your attention. We spend our own money inside every app we review, we keep notes in an actual paper notebook, and we publish only what we would tell a friend across the kitchen table.
Most of what we write falls into three piles: hands-on reviews of AI budgeting apps, calm how-to guides for picking and using them, and a plain-English glossary for the money words nobody explained at school. No hype, no jargon, no shouting about crypto.
We ran our entire household budget through Savelaro Edge for 30 days in June and July 2026. Its AI agent sorted 212 of our 241 transactions correctly on the first pass, nudged us twice before we overspent on groceries, and drafted a savings plan we actually kept. It is free, it is calm, and it is the first budgeting app June has not abandoned by week three. Read the full Savelaro Edge review or see how it ranks in our 7 best AI budgeting apps of 2026.
